How photo estimation works

When you snap a meal, a vision AI model does three things: it identifies the foods on the plate, estimates the portion size of each from visual cues (plate size, food height, density), and maps each identified portion to nutrition data. Each step contributes error — identification is usually excellent, portion estimation is the hard part.
